Enjoy, While It Last

For the past 22 years, I grew up in Depok, a small city in the south of Jakarta. I never set my foot too far from my city. Well, I do some traveling. But the concept of moving permanently to another city? Nope. Never done that.

What bothers me lately is the fact that when you live in a small city like this, you feel that you have some anchor. Your friends are here, your family, everyone you know. But for this post, I want to highlight my friends.

I currently on an internship. My office located in the south of Jakarta. About an hour and a half (depends on the traffic, of course!) commuting from Depok. What I didn't expect was that I share my office tower with some of my senior high fellows! And the fact that most of my friends also work in Jakarta (mostly in the south and central), our office is so close. Therefore, it is still so easy if we want to arrange a sudden meetup after our office hour. So the chance of meeting again the person I already know for half of my life is still there. And it's getting much bigger, considering most of my friends who used to go outside of Depok for college, are now back in town.

I mean, I can't be more grateful to reunite again with my fellow whom I already know for like a half of my life. It's comforting, it's familiar, it's easy. But there are times like "Why do I always bump into the familiar?" I'm starting to feel anxious that my circle will be so tiny when I grow older, haha.

If I want to blame myself for having a small circle of close friends, I can. But looking from the other perspective, I'm grateful that I'm still able to catch up with my old friends while most of my friends who moved from outside of Jakarta to become a nomad in Jakarta are struggling and feeling sad when they miss their friends' big moments back in hometown.
As Maya Angelou beautifully said it "Be present in all things and thankful for all things"
So, enjoy it while it last, will you, Ay?
